Euclidean Rhythm Generator
Free tool to build, hear and export Euclidean rhythms. No sign-up
A Euclidean rhythm distributes a number of pulses as evenly as possible over a number of steps. Many rhythms found in music traditions around the world turn out to be Euclidean: 3 pulses in 8 steps gives the tresillo, 5 in 8 the cinquillo. The idea comes from a 2005 paper by Godfried Toussaint, and the algorithm used here is Bjorklund's, originally designed for timing in nuclear physics equipment.
Choose the number of steps and pulses, or start from a preset.
Use rotation to shift where the pattern starts.
Press Play to hear it, and change the sliders while it plays.
Download a MIDI file to drop into your DAW, or copy the pattern as text.
